Gloria Taylor

"We watch each other's kids. As you could tell, they always end up here."

Gloria Taylor, 57, was born and raised in the house she currently lives in. Taylor said she enjoys the quiet, and she feels safe in Rillito. There are no police or fire sirens disturbing that quiet, which can prove a problem. She said that anytime bad things happen in the community, it’s always an outsider who acts out when they realize there are no police in the area. She blamed the town’s reputation on those people who take advantage of the lack of law enforcement. Although Taylor’s six siblings moved away, her three children and nine of her grandchildren still reside in the neighborhood, with one daughter across the street, one daughter up the street and around the corner, and her son living at home with her. She joked that the kids are always messing up her house and her yard as two of her grandchildren peaked from behind a wheelbarrow.

“I’m stuck with the grandkids all the time. They don’t want to go home. They’ll come here and when it’s time to go home they cry. They don’t want to go."
